Sebaceous Adenocarcinoma in a Dog

History: 16 -year-old dog, Beagle mix, spayed female, showing recurrence of a previously diagnosed sebaceous epithelioma. The mass was removed one month ago. The new mass is 3 x 5 cm, firm and on the incision line.
Cytological description: The images show numerous clusters of neoplastic epithelial cells characterized by a moderate to large amount of moderately basophilic cytoplasm sometimes containing few ro numerou clear vacuoles of variable sizes, variably but mostly high nucleocytoplasmic ratio, medium-sized to large round to oval to slightly irregular nuclei with moderately granular chromatin, multiple prominent nucleoli of variable shapes and sizes with frequent macronucleoli, moderate nuclear piling and cellular crowding, and moderate to severe anisocytosis and anisokaryosis. There are numerous multinucleated cells showing nuclei of variable sizes. The last picture at the bottom was taken from the first set of slides submitted. It consists of a single cluster of basal epithelial cells.
Comments: Sebaceous adenocarcinomas usually have a low potential for metastasis and recurrence.
